A polymer particle coated with silica, which comprises a polymer particle and a silica coating film, wherein the silica coating film covers said polymer particle in such a manner that the surface of said polymer is so exposed to have an opening area in a ratio of 0.1 to 1 and the height (h) of the silica coating film and the diameter (D) of the polymer particle coated with silica satisfy the relationship: 0.5 <= h/D < 1, and wherein the silica coating film comprises a condensed product of a polyalkoxysiloxane oligomer.
