792,291. Rotter bearings. SCHAEFFLER, W., and SCHAEFFLER, G., [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER OHG]. Sept. 26, 1956 [Sept. 26, 1955], No. 29468/56. Class 12 (1). In a universal joint having a trunnion crossmember 1 formed with end journals 3, each end journal is enclosed by an elastic cup-like bushing 5 which forms an outer raceway for a needle bearing, the bushing being formed by drawing and being hardened at least in the area of the raceway. The base of the bushing 5 provides a bearing 8 for the end face 9 of the journal 3. Radial grooves are formed either in the bearing surface 8 or face 9 for the supply of lubricant to the bearing. A packing ring 13 is located in the annular space at the open end of the cup. In a modification, a roller thrust-bearing 22 is located at the end of the journal. The rollers 23 are arranged in a disc-type cage 27 having lubricant grooves 28. |
