ABSTRACT A process for producing a vacuum glass panel in which at the bonding of a pair of opposite glass plates with a spacer interposed therebetween, not only deformation of the pair of glass plates but also any strength decrease thereof can be inhibited; and a vacuum glass panel produced by the process. Bonding of thermally tempered sheet glass members (13, 17) is carried out by first disposing thermally tempared sheet glass members (13, 17) piled one upon the other on panel supports (58), subsequently heating the whole of thermally tempered sheet glass members (13, 17) to given temperature, for example, 150 DEG C or higher, preferably 200 to 300 DEG C and thereafter effecting local heating of peripheral edge portions of the thermally tempered sheet glass members (13, 17) with the use of irradiation unit (59) capable of emitting radio-frequency radiation so that columnar projections (16) are selectively heated and re-fused. At the local heating, compressed air from nozzle (60) is applied to the peripheral edge portions of the thermally tempered sheet glass plates (14, 18) so as to cool the same. <IMAGE>
