An electromagnetic switch comprises at least two driving coils. One driving coil turns off the switch according to the current flowing through the switch, for example, when an overcurrent flows. Another driving coil is excited or demagnetized by a driving circuit, thereby turning on or off the switch. This driving circuit excites or demagnetizes the driving coil according to a control signal supplied from a control circuit. In this manner, the switch can be turned off according to the current flowing through the driving coil.
