The system for opening drinks cartons (2) comprises a cap (3) which contains an active material, e.g. sodium bicarbonate (4). This is released when the cap is rotated and falls into the contents of the carton, e.g. fruit juice. An independent claim is included for a method for incorporating active materials into the caps of cartons.
