Prosthetic devices discussed herein include devices that are made from inexpensive components to produce low-cost alternatives. Among many embodiments discussed sockets are disclosed that can be made from casting material and inflatable material, terminal devices that can be made from machinable plastic and that can be actuated by a free hand or by pressing the same against a fixed object, and an arm section that can be made from unconventional materials including plastic piping and bamboo. Methods for constructing the low-cost alternatives are also discusse d.
