The present invention relates to novel polygalacturonase inhibitor protein and its use, and more particularly, to polygalacturonase inhibitor protein isolated from Brassica campestris and its use. The polygalacturonase inhibitor protein of the present invention is involved in plant defense mechanism against bacterial infection. Therefore, the polynucleotide encoding the protein of the present invention can be used to produce a disease-resistant transgenic plant or to confer resistance against bacterial infection on a plant.
