<p>A method for precision cutting items out of flat metal foil has the foil (2) held on a porous mat (5) on a vacuum table (1). The cutting tool penetrates into the upper layer of the mat, which is stretched between two rollers (12, 13) to ensure a fresh section of mat is available for each section of foil. The mat has a sandwich structure comprising an oil resistant cover layer, a core layer and a tear resistant base layer. The mat has a thickness of between 0.5 and 0.8 mm with a tool penetration depth of about 0.3 mm.</p> |
