Gulls wing door for saloon car has three linked sections to open in a confined space

An improved design of gulls wing door for a saloon car is made in three sections; a roof section (3) with a roof mounted hinge (8) near to the centre of the roof, a window section (4) and a door sections (5). The three sections are linked by parallel hinges to enable the door to unfold in a restricted space, either restricted beside the vehicle or under a low headroom. The separate sections can be fitted with servo drives to open in the selected modes. A proximity sensor detects the space beside/above the vehicle and sets the opening mode.
