System for sensing the condition of a medium (2), e.g. oil in a combustion engine, has a sensor arrangement (1) for detecting the medium's condition and a thermoelectric power supply that is in thermal contact with the medium whose condition is being measured and in electrical contact with the sensor arrangement. The invention also relates to a corresponding motor vehicle module with an oil sump (3) and a system for sensing the condition of the oil contained in the sump.
