A compact design for a swivel action hydraulic motor has the motor shaft (9) supported through the two end caps (17, 19) with a shaft support sleeve (31) fitted to the inside of one end caps as compared to the conventional external support sleeve in a conventional design. The internal sleeve extends partially into the outline of the hydraulic chamber and supports the shaft via an integral bearing (27). The other end cap can be made in one piece with the outer cylindrical housing and one end cap is fitted with an outer mounting flange (37) for installing the motor.
