Disclosed is a counting device used in optical recording/reproducing apparatus, in which an optical storage media is directed into or moved away from the optical recording/reproducing apparatus via an opening thereof. In the optical recording/reproducing apparatus, the counting device comprises a sensor used to sense each entrance of the optical storage medium into the optical recording/reproducing apparatus through the opening and a counter used to count number of times of the entrances of the optical storage medium as sensed.
