Method of operation of a steering system with configuration of operational modes

The method involves having a guide wheel (15), a control drive (13) and an overlapping transmission (12), where overlapping transmission initiates the steering movement of the driver of the vehicle. The control drive controls the initiation of the movement and influenced by a control signal. The controller determines the steering wheel angle, the pinion angle and further vehicle-specific parameters such as vehicle speed. An input control signal provides safety functions of a safety monitoring method for plausibility which is examined forming the basis of the configuration of the results of different applications of the steering system. Independent claims are included for the following; (1) a computer program; (2) a controller.
