Pharmaceutical compositions comprising Scutellaria having antiviral activity against Coronavirus, particularly against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Preferably, the Scutellaria spp is selected from S. baicalensis , S. amoena, S. barbata, S. discolour, S. hypericifolia, S. inbica, S. likiangensis, S. orthocalyx, S. rehderiana, S. scssiliflora and S. viscidula. The Scutellaria may be a botanical raw material, botanical drug substance or botanical ingredient. Preferably, the extract is standardised and is an ethanolic and/or lyophilised extract. In another aspect, extracts of one or more of Scutellaria, Lonicera, Forsythia, Rabdosia for the treatment of SARS. In another aspect, the use of one or more of baicalin, baicalein, chlorogenic acid, forsythiaside, caffeic acid and phillyrin for the treatment of SARS. |
