Voicemail is received at a voicemail server and converted into an audio file format. The audio file is then sent or streamed over a wide area network to a voice to text transcription system comprising a network of computers. One of the networked computers plays back the audio file to a human operator and the operator intelligently transcribes the original voice message by entering a corresponding text message into the computer. The transcribed text message (SMS or MMS) is then sent to the wireless information device from the computer. The transcribed text message may be a succinct version of the original voice message rather than a verbose word-for-word conversion. Also, the text message may include a unique identifier that links it to the voice message to allow the end user to play back the voice message to the wireless information device.
|
