Method for the operation of a power assisted steering system with a minimal interface

Vehicle steering system operation method involves a control unit receiving input signals e.g. steering movements by the driver, and/or other vehicle-specific states e.g. vehicle speed, and producing an output signal to create a steering movement (delta Fm) of the wheel. A minimal system interface with the necessary input signals and output signals is used for the connection to other vehicle systems, especially an electronic stability programme (ESP) and anti-lock braking system (ABS). Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a computer program to carry out the proposed method; (B) a control unit for a steering system to carry out a computer program.
