Method and apparatus for removing foreign materials from tobacco

A delivery unit delivers a stream of material containing tobacco. A conveying element (15) accelerates the stream of material. An optical testing element (18) detects the foreign matter in the stream of material. A sifter (22) connected to testing element, separates foreign matter from tobacco based on detection. A foreign matter removing unit (13) is arranged directly above the conveying element. An independent claim is also included for method for removing foreign matter from tobacco.
