The present invention relates to a method of and apparatus for image analysis. In particular the invention may relate to the automatic detection of fields or frames in film or video content with still or substantially still images. The invention provides a method of image analysis for analysing a sequence of images in which bit-reduced samples are formed from representative image data samples of each image by removing at least 1 Most Significant Bit (MSB) from the representative image data samples, and each bit-reduced sample is compared with a corresponding bit-reduced sample from a preceding image in order to determine whether the image is still or substantially still. |
