A water shut-off is provided in a hydrocarbon well by injecting a first chemical composition, viz. a relative permeability modifier, into the hydrocarbon and a water zone of the well followed immediately by th e injection of a second chemical composition, viz. a flow blocking chemical composition, into said zones and, after a shut-in period f or reaction of the relative permeability modifier, back producing the chemical compositions from the hydrocarbon zones to provide a path for said hydrocarbons from said zones whilst allowing the flow blocking chemical compositions to form the water shut-off in said water zone s.
