The invention relates to a method for producing filter cigarettes (10) that, in a longitudinal direction, have at least two filter sections (20, 22) each made of a different material. The inventive method comprises the following steps: Endless strands are made from each filter material and consist of a first and second filter material with a wrapping; first and second sections (30, 32) each comprised of a different filter material of a predetermined length are made from the endless strands; the sections are alternately arranged next to one another to form a row while interspaced at a distance (34) and are continuously wrapped in order to form another endless strand; this other endless strand is divided into double filter sections (36) whose ends are composed of a first or second section of half the length and whose middle area is composed of an entire second or first section; the double filter sections are each placed between two tobacco sticks and are each joined to the assigned tobacco stick by means of an end wrapping (48), and; the double filter sections are severed in the middle.
