Every ECC block undergoes error- correction coding when dubbing is carried out, and even in the case of a single byte in an ECC block to be rewritten, the entire ECC block containing the byte needs reading and writing. If dubbed audio data are distributed to ECC blocks, it may be necessary to rewrite almost all the ECC blocks, that is, all the data in order to dub the audio data. According to the invention, original data is excluded from ECC blocks that contain dubbed data so that undue quantities of the original data will not be written when dubbed data are rewritten.
