Cooked fish waste is pressed in a rotaryscrew extrusion press, and the sludge penetrating the axially arranged strainer elements 4 thereof falls on to a vibrating screen 2. The liquid content passes through screen 2 to outlet 13, and the solids are discharged from the press and from the screen at 14, 15 as one stream. The screen is suspended by springs 11 and the screw 3 varies axially in pitch and core diameter and is axially adjustable to vary the degree of pressing. |
