A content distribution method includes a step of distributing a package (9) into which a content (12) to be distributed is installed from a content distribution device (3), to content distribution destination terminals (6, 7), and a step of spreading and displaying in the terminals the content contained in the package distributed by using spread software owned by the terminals. In addition to the content (12), spread software update data (13) is installed in the package (9). Furthermore, when the terminals cannot spread the content by using their spread software, the terminals update their spread software by the update data contained in the package distributed and spread the contents by using the updated spread software.
