An catalytic article which has a porous carrier formed by binding a number of aggregate particles containing a non-oxide ceramic as a main component with one another in a state of the presence of a number of pores and, carried thereon, a catalyst layer containing a compound of an alkali metal, wherein the porous carrier comprises an oxide film inevitably formed on a part of the surface of an aggregate particle, and further a preventive layer for the oxide film comprising a substance not forming a low melting point glass with an alkali metal, which layer is formed between the oxide film and the catalyst layer so as to cover at least a part of the oxide film.
