The aid (1) has an elongated shape and has a single-piece or multi-part construction with a first end (2) specially shaped to help put on or remove a shoe or sock and a second end (3) which is curved so part of a sock being put on can be secured around it. The first end has a shoe horn shape. An independent claim is also included for a method for removing a shoe or sock using this aid, by placing the first end between the shoe and sock and pushing the sock and heel away from the foot, and for putting on a sock by securing it around the second end, passing the foot through the sock and raising the second end so that the sock is pulled on.
