The procedure consists of attaching a length of fabric (5) to a support so that it forms a series of folds in a spiral. The support with the fabric attached is then dipped into a dye bath (8, 9) and rotated in the vertical plane so the layers of the spiral are pushed apart. The support is dipped in the dye bath to different depths to produce graded colour effects, or in baths of dye in different colours, and the dyes fabric is rinsed and tented. The support consists of upper and lower flanges (1, 2) connected by an adjustable telescopic shaft (3, 4) and having fastenings for attaching the fabric to them in spiral folds; it is attached to a mechanism (10, 10a, 10b, 11) for moving it up and down in the dye bath and rotating it. |
