The connecting rod (2) is designed as a shaft with an eye (10) at one of its ends to be joined to the piston of a fuel propelled engine. The inner surface of the eye (10) is made of two different kinds of material (7, 8). At least two areas are made of a tin alloy (4, 6) in order to be comparatively soft and to hold dust and grid particles. The coating (7) is applied to recesses (12, 13) at the inner surface by thermal spraying. The two other areas (3, 5) are made of hardened steel (8).
