The vaginal tampon (1), with a withdrawal thread at the end side (3), has grooves (4) along the outer surface, separated by longitudinal ribs (5). The grooves and ribs follow an undulating path, with alternating larger and smaller curvatures. The gaps between the grooves is constant as far as the insertion end (2) of the tampon.
