A variable geometry outlet for smoke or hot air has the outlet fitted with a closing flap under which are fitted airflow guides. The flap and the guides are mouthed on position control supports which set the geometry to match the wind conditions, e.g. to provide a protected setting in high winds and storms. The airflow guides include a spoiler and can be adjusted independent of the flap settings.
