The scratchpad has a receiving circuit to receive and decode a radio signal transmitted by a writing tool (2) e.g. stylus, a trace data of the tool, and an information about the type of tool such as tool color and writing type. A status indicator (11) displays the information about the type of tool. A memory management device manages a memory of the circuit that stores the decoded information.
