A self-cleaning pet litter box (10) has a conveyor (20) to incrementally transport clumped litter material and solid pet waste to a waste receptacle (22). The conveyor (20) has one end configured to extend into a pet litter container (14) of the self-cleaning litter box (10) and an opposite exit end (32). The conveyor (20) is configured for reciprocating movement to lift the clumped litter material and solid pet waste from below, transport it some distance along the conveyor (20), place the material down again, return to i ts original position, and repeat the motion again to incrementally move the material along the conveyor (20) toward the exit end (32) for subsequent disposal.
