摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make uniform light intensity distribution in a main scanning direction, and to average light intensity distribution in a sub-scanning direction, and to increase the quantity of light by using two sets of illuminating units whose light emitting sources are provided on one end face of a light guide body and by arranging illuminating units at point-symmetrical position. SOLUTION: Two sets of illuminating units 2L, 2R in each of which a light emitting source substrate 4 having a light emitting source such as light emitting diodes is mounted on one end face of the light guide body 3 are arranged so that the same area on the reading face of an original is illuminated by light outputted from each outgoing face 3a and the light emitting source is positioned at the opposite side of a main scanning direction (longitudinal direction). As the two sets of illuminating units are alternately positioned, characteristics of each illuminating unit can be offset. Therefore, the light intensity distribution can be made uniform and averaged. Each illuminating unit 2L, 2R is arranged to make each outgoing face 3a symmetric to a plane orthogonal to the reading face of the original so that any shade generated on the face of the original can be reduced when the face of the original is not flat.
