PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digest having a large information volume by giving indexes and degrees of importance to respective channels of images, a sound, etc., of a content and selecting parts most suitable for a digest in respective channels to generate a digest. SOLUTION: A digest generator includes an index giving means for separating a content composed of a plurality of data into segments in accordance with contents of respective data and giving an index indicative of contents to each segment and a digest generating means for storing segments selected by using the indexes to generate a digest of the content, and only segments necessary for digest generation are selected to generate a digest having a large information volume.
