PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-beam scanner capable of adjusting the beam spacing in a subscanning direction without separately providing the interior of the apparatus with a beam spacing adjusting means and an image forming apparatus equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The scanner is fixed with a motor 36 and a polygon mirror 33 within a casing 35 and as a rotor of the motor 36 rotates, the polygon mirror 33 rotates at a high speed as well to deflect two beams La and Lb emitted from two LDs not shown in Figure. The beams La and Lb past a scanning lens 34 are changed in their optical paths by a turn back mirror 37 and are passed through cover glass 38 and are made incident at different angles on a photoreceptor drum 5 disposed on the outside of the scanner such that the photoreceptor drum 5 is scanned. The casing 35 is annexed with a driving means 39 so that the casing 35 is moved in an arrow AB direction based on the beam spacing in the subscanning direction on the photoreceptor drum 5 detected by a beam spacing detection sensor 40.
