PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an annealing method capable of horizontally holding a cold-rolled steel sheet coil by a simple means and preventing the steel sheet from buckling at its side end portion when performing an annealing in a box annealing furnace, and to provide the box annealing furnace to be used for the method. SOLUTION: A coil receiving stand is supported by two or more supporting members installed in the box annealing furnace. A cold-rolled steel sheet coil is placed on the coil receiving stand, the height of the supporting members is individually adjusted, and the cold-rolled steel sheet coil is annealed with the level of the coil receiving stand is set to be≤5/1,000.
