PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance practical use of a steering operation device having a pair of operation member projected from an instrument panel. SOLUTION: A pair of steering bars (operation member) 10 projected from the instrument panel 12 are interlockingly operated in the usual operation state. For example, the interlocking is released and they are withdrawn into the instrument panel 12 by operation of a switch 54 by a driver. Action of the driver is not suppressed and getting on/off property to the vehicle becomes good. Further, for example, in collision of the vehicle, if the steering bars 10 are withdrawn, deployment of air bags 26, 28 is not suppressed and collision safety is enhanced. Further, the steering bars 10 are formed in a circular-arc shape, are arranged on a circumference of a circle and are operated so as to pay out/take-in each of them in the interlocked state.
