PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sustain liquid ejection performance of a liquid ejection head by providing a means for coating the nozzle surface with surfactant in a head cap for protecting the nozzle surface of the liquid ejection head. SOLUTION: In a head cartridge 3 comprising a print head 10 having a nozzle member 12 provided with a nozzle 13 for ejecting ink supplied from an ink tank 9 containing each color ink, and a head cap 11 fixed removably to the print head 10 to move relatively and protecting the nozzle surface 12a, a means 14 for coating the nozzle surface 12a with surfactant is provided in the head cap 11. Consequently, a film of surfactant is formed on the nozzle surface 12a while absorbing ink drops adhering thereto, thus sustaining ink ejection performance of the print head 10.
