PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein computer systems having a plurality of storage devices such as an SAN could not detect addition of storage devices or configuration changes of storage devices belonging to the SAN nor automatically redistribute existing storage areas based on "hints" provided when the storage areas are created. SOLUTION: A management computer, which is connected via a network to the storage devices having storage areas connected via a network to a computer and which stores data used by the computer, keeps correspondences between levels indicating predetermined performances of storage areas and device characteristics of the storage devices, and obtains, from a first storage device, a level indicating a performance of a storage area allocated by the first storage system to the computer. The first device characteristic information corresponding to the obtained level indicating the performance of the storage area, and the device characteristic information of another storage system are referenced, and the performances of the storage areas among the storage devices are compared.
