A device (11) for placing a blind rivet (2) comprises a robot-guided multifunctional tool (4) having a boring/sinking implement (7) and a rivet placing implement (8). The boring/sinking implement (7) and the rivet placing implement (8) are displaceably mounted on a base body (6) of the multifunctional tool (4) whereby enabling both implements (7, 8) to be alternately pushed into the area of the joining location (10) to be created on the parts (3, 3'). In an alternative embodiment, the boring/sinking implement (7'') and the rivet placing implement (8'') are mounted on the base body (6'') of the multifunctional tool (4'') in such a manner that both working axes (29",30") of the boring/sinking implement (7'') and the rivet placing implement (8'') form an angle (31) with one another ranging from 30 DEG to 180 DEG . The inventive device (1) permits a process-reliable automated blind riveting process even under confined spatial conditions and is particularly suited for use in the automotive industry.
