PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which facilitates and quickens inputting characters for adding meta data such as character information, etc. to image data. SOLUTION: The image recorder comprises an image taking unit 10 including photoelectric converter elements for converting an object image obtained through a photographing optical system to image signals, a signal processor 11 for processing the image signals to generate image data, a means 26 for recording the generated image data on a recording medium, a means 31 for inputting meta information to be added to the image data, and a connection port 36 for connecting a communication means for communication with externals. A character information reader 40 connected to the connection port 36 is controlled to add the inputted character information from the reader 40 to the image data and record them on the recording medium.
