PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To urge replacement of an ink cartridge at an adequate time to use ink without wasting it. SOLUTION: The ink cartridges 60A, 60B are mounted on a print head 30 to be provided on a carriage 40 and the ink is supplied to the print head 30 through a common supply passage 12C. A consumption of the ink of each of the ink cartridges 60A, 60B is calculated based on print data to be supplied to the print head 30. When the quantities of residual ink in both of the ink cartridges 60A, 60B become equal to or lower than an ink near end state, a user is notified of a message that one ink cartridge of which the quantity of the residual ink is lower than the other (for example, one which reaches the ink end state) should be replaced.
