PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift position display device for a vehicle having high visibility even at night. SOLUTION: The shift position display device for the vehicle has a plurality of display elements 10-16 for displaying a shift position of a gear change lever of an A/T car, a determining means 1 for determining whether it is day or night, and driving means 1, 3-9, 24-39 for turning off the whole display elements corresponding to the non-selected shift position while driving the display element corresponding to the selected shift position by first brightness (100%) when the determining means 1 determines that it is day, and for driving the display element corresponding to R (reverse) by the first brightness (100%) when the shift position R (reverse) is selected, and driving the whole display elements corresponding to the non-selected shift position by third brightness (5%) having the brightness lower than second brightness while driving the display element corresponding to the selected shift position by the second brightness (25%) having the brightness lower than the first brightness when the shift position other than the R (reverse) is selected, when the determining means 1 determines that it is night.
