PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelled toy running, overcoming an obstacle on a running surface, without being restricted by electronic control such as a remote control. SOLUTION: In the self-propelled toy A in which front wheels 1 composing free wheels, and rear wheels 2 composing first drive wheels, and which is moved forward by the rotation of the first drive wheels 2, the rear center of an axle 4 of the front wheels 1 is disposed with a second drive wheel 7 rotating in a direction orthogonal to the front wheels 1. The second drive wheel 7 is disposed so as not to make contact with the running surface (a) when the front wheels 1 and the rear wheels 2 make contact with the running surface (a), and so as to make contact with the running surface (a) when the front wheels 1 run off. The self-propelled toy includes a driving mechanism B for moving the second drive wheel 7 downward to make contact with the running surface (a) and keep the front wheels 1 off the running surface (a), when the first drive wheels 2 are applied with load.
