VEHICLE DETECTION DEVICE AND VEHICLE DETECTION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle detection device and a vehicle detection method capable of highly precisely and speedily detecting a vehicle.

SOLUTION: A peak detection part 10 scans image data from an image pickup device 2, and detects a part where the increase/decrease change of a luminance value in the scanning direction of the image data is not less than a predetermined threshold as a peak point, and converts the image data into peak data including the position of the peak point. A frame difference part 30 subtracts the peak data outputted by the peak detecting part 10 and the peak data of the pre-frame stored in a peak data storage part 20. A projection processing part 40 outputs projection data by operating projection processing to project the subtracted peak data in a horizontal direction. A vehicle deciding part 60 matches the projection data outputted by the projection data processing part 40 with the previously outputted projection data stored in the projection data storage part, and decides the detection of a vehicle based on the matching level.
