PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe X-ray contrast medium obtained by stabilizing a liposome, improving the holding stability of a iodine compound, and achieving efficient deliver of the contrast medium and good targeting thereof. SOLUTION: This X-ray contrast medium can include a large amount of the water-soluble nonionic iodine compound as possible in a liposome by regulating the amount of contained cations, especially the amount of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and hardly has cohesive properties of the liposome. The contrast material (the iodine compound) included in the liposome exhibits good retentivity in the blood, and is selectively concentrated and accumulated in a targeted disease site or tissue, especially carcinoma tissue, and rapidly excreted to the exterior of the body after contrast radiography. The X-ray contrast medium is free from a harmful solvent, and the composition of cations in its preparation is, for example, set so that a side effect such as the probability of an undesirable influence on the heart systolic power, hemagglutination activities, and the occurrence of arrhythmia may be reduced.
