The device has a housing (1) with a remote sensor (2) for capturing the length of a patient`s leg, and a fork light barrier (5) determines the periphery of the patient`s leg. A central processing unit in the housing stores the measured quantities captured by the sensor and the light barrier and combines them with stored size values of a thrombosis stocking. A display (8) in the housing displays the size values of the sock.
