<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of readily correcting an image without changing a mechanism or an image output engine while suppressing the increase of the cost. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises an image positional deviation detection means 125 for detecting positional deviation of an image from a printed image of a specified pattern and a light deflection means 135 for deflecting a writing optical path provided on an optical path between a light source 133 and a photosensitive body 111, and suppresses the color shift by varying an amount of deflection of the light according to the detected result of the positional deviation by using the deflection means. A fluctuation cycle of the amount of positional deviation detected by the positional deviation detection means 125 and the amount of positional deviation of a rotary body including the photosensitive body and a transfer belt at a home position are obtained.
