<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation plate which has little lowering of contrast, and contributes to improvement of an angle-of-view characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: The retardation plate has at least each one layer of an optical anisotropic layer A in which a liquid crystal composition containing at least a kind of discotic liquid crystalline compound with a polymeric group is hybrid-oriented and fixed, and an optical anisotropic layer B in which a liquid crystal composition containing at least a kind of bar-like liquid crystalline compound with a polymeric group is oriented and fixed, wherein an average inclination angle between the major axis direction of the molecules of the bar-like liquid crystalline compound and the retardation plate face is 5 degrees or more. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
