PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera apparatus and a through-image display method for improving the ease of use at photographing. SOLUTION: A digital camera is used which is provided with a laterally long display screen 9a whose aspect ratio is "3:6" for a liquid crystal monitor for displaying a through-image and a recorded image. In a photographing standby state, the display screen 9a is divided into a maximum display region A having an aspect ratio of "3:4" and the other regions B, C, the through-image is displayed on the maximum display region A, and a preceding image recorded at photographing just before and an image preceding to the preceding image recorded by two times before are respectively displayed on the other regions B, C. The preceding image and the image preceding to the preceding image displayed on the regions B, C are respectively updated every time photographing is carried out. In the photographing standby state, it is possible to prepare photographing such as framing by referencing the preceding object image and after the photographing operations, the photographing result can immediately be confirmed.
