PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser which can restrain temperature rise even if mounted on a plastic holder or an optical pick-up by improving thermal emissivity from the surface of the semiconductor laser, and to provide a semiconductor laser unit using it. SOLUTION: A laser chip 2 is mounted on a heatsink 12 provided to a stem 1 or a die pad connected to a lead. At least a pair of leads 13, 14 connected to each electrode of the laser chip 2, and a resin which is provided to a cap 5 surrounding the laser chip 2 or a periphery of the laser chip 2 and fixes the lead, are provided. At least a part of metallic portions, of the stem 1, the heatsink 12, a die pad, leads 11 to 13 and the cap 5 is provided with a radiation film 9 whose emissivity is higher than the emissivity of the metal.
